The Friendship Club Social Event for teens/young adults in the Autism Spectrum has been taking place for 17 years now. After 17 years, the volunteer coordinators of the event (John, Ryan and Lecia) are no longer able to continue planning, organizing and running the event and need to hand over all responsibilities to a new set of volunteers. Several people have expressed an interest in becoming organizers of the event, however, they need HELP! If you would like to be part of a volunteer committee , please send an email to us at:firstname.lastname@example.org If you don't want to be part of the committee, but would like to help in other ways, they could absolutely use your assistance with things such as: 1) Help setting up the rooms with tables/chairs/video games/board games, etc.... 2) Running to Costco to pick up snacks/items which you will get reimbursed for. 3) Getting hockey game equipment and basketballs set up in gym 4) Talent show assistance with microphones/sound system 5) Serving pizza/refreshments 6) Cleaning up at the end of event (moving tables/chairs/cleaning off tables/etc.... Please let us know you would like to be a volunteer by sending us an email to: email@example.com
We will continue to keep the Facebook page and website up for an indefinite period of time and utilize it to help spread the word about other gatherings/social events/get-togethers for people in the Autism Spectrum. We encourage everyone to try and plan get-togethers in the community like meeting at a restaurant, park, zoo, movie theater, bowling, etc....We can post your ideas on our Facebook page.
The Friendship Club is run by volunteers and additional support is provided by the Autism Society/Oakland County Chapter. Parents, siblings, friends are welcome to come. Attendees should be 13 years or older, please, as this event is geared for teens/young adults.Ages range from 13 yrs, to 30's. ***We urge you to always check this website on the day of the social to make sure the event has not been cancelled due to an emergency, bad weather or other unforeseen problem. Or check our Facebook page! Cost: $5.00 per person. (Unless specified otherwise) This includes snacks, pizza/salad, pop and also helps us with the expenses of running the socials. The socials are all organized and handled by volunteer coordinators.
This is NOT a "facilitated" event and volunteers/organizers cannot be responsible for attendees.
We encourage parents/care providers to stay at the events at all times at every event because volunteers are not able to provide care or monitor behavior.
*** First time attendees may not be dropped off and left at the event without a parent/caregiver.
***Please bring GYM SHOES with WHITE BOTTOMS to play basketball or hockey in the gym. (Do not wear black shoes because they will mark up the gym floor.)
DATES - UPCOMING SOCIALS!!!! $5.00 admission per person (all caregivers are also asked to pay admission please) (No reservation needed!) Dates will be forthcoming if enough volunteers are available to continue the social. Want to help? See our Facebook page for updates and to connect with others who are interested in volunteering to keep the social going.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!We appreciate your help during our socials!
